2014 Polaris RZR XP 4 1000

Hot on the heels of the release of the 2014 Polaris RZR XP1000, the Minnesota manufacturer has now released a four-seat version of the high performance side-by-side, dubbed the RZR XP 4 1000. Polaris continues to aggressively bring vehicles to market at a pace that would make even the Apple development team’s head spin. Just last year we proclaimed the RZR XP4 900 Best UTV of 2012, and now it is to be trounced with more power, more suspension and more comfort.
“RZR has defined the recreational side-by-side market, outselling the competition five to one, and owning a RZR has become a lifestyle allowing for social adventure,” said Craig Scanlon, general manager for the Off-Road Vehicle Division at Polaris. “Our four-seat RZRs provide off-road enthusiasts the ability to share that lifestyle with more of their family and friends, and the new RZR XP 4 1000 is the ultimate in outdoor adventure for four.”

The RZR XP 4 1000 is powered by the same 999cc ProStar Twin-cylinder engine that puts out 107 horsepower. Built specifically for side-by-side use, the powerplant features Dual Overhead Cams (DOHC), four valves per cylinder and dual EFI throttle bodies. Polaris claims it is the fastest accelerating four-seat UTV on the market

Just like the two-seat model we tested just a couple of months ago in the 2014 Polaris RZR XP1000 First Ride, the XP 4 1000 has an all new tubular chassis that reduces flex. Compared to the XP 4 900, the 1000 has a lower cab frame thanks to a flat second row of seats, which lowers the center of gravity for nimble handling. Adding to the handling prowess is Polaris’ Electronic Power Steering (EPS) and a new, high performance All-Wheel Drive system that engages both front wheels with full torque to maximize the power to the ground from the front-end through 29-inch Maxxis Bighorn tires.

Attached to the new tube chassis is a 3-Link trailing arm rear suspension and double A-arm front suspension mated to Walker Evans position-sensitive, anti-bottoming needle shocks. The suspension matches the two-seat model with 16” front wheel travel and 18” of stroke in the rear with 16-position compression adjustability on the shock reservoirs. All four shocks also have preload adjustable dual-rate dual springs.

Inside the XP 4 1000, four newly designed seats offer more bolstering and hip cushioning for a more locked-in and comfortable ride for all occupants. Up front, the driver and passenger seat are equipped with seat sliders for tool-less, on-the-fly adjustment. The rear passengers get deeper footwells with angled footrests for more room. Cup holders and a 12-volt outlet add convenience for those in the second row. Both the front and rear have blue LED floor lighting and floor cleanouts.
eplace the netting system of previous models and are designed for more elbowroom. A high-strength, easy-to-access latch allows for one hand operation.

A host of Polaris accessories fit to the XP 4 1000 with integrated mounting points. Installation is easy with Polaris’ Lock & Ride Expanding Anchors, pass-through areas for wiring and accessories designed to work seamlessly together.

The 2014 Polaris XP 4 1000 will be in dealerships in November. MSRP is set at $21,999.
